New Year, New Brand: Leigh Creative

Hi everyone! Welcome to my rebranded website! I am very excited to combine my Art Club with my Photography under the name Leigh Creative. I chose Leigh Creative as my new business name, firstly, because I got married and am no longer April Ashton, and because my middle name is Leigh. It is actually a family middle name! My sister, mother, and aunt all had the same middle name but spelled differently. It’s a beautiful and simple name to remember and I wanted to keep my family apart of the new brand.

In summer 2018, God put it on my heart to start an Art Club at my house once a week. I miss teaching art to kiddos and it seemed like a great way to build new relationships. I prepare a lesson for the kids to have fun, learn about an artist, a different type of art medium, and to be creative within themselves. It has been so much fun getting to create lessons for them and see them have a good time. If you are interested in learning more about Art Club, click on the tab above or send me a message on the Contact tab.

I did my first ever Mini Sessions this past Fall and I loved getting to capture all of these families! It really is such a joy to capture a moment in time within the span of someone’s life. I have recently been looking back at old photos because my old stepdad passed away. Photos are how we relive moments and some of them we forget. Photography is wonderful for this purpose!

My favorites from the Mini Sessions are below. Enjoy!

2018 Happenings!

Hello all! It has been a while since I have posted any recent photos. I had the opportunity to photograph 3 weddings, an engagement session, and a newborn session from this summer I wanted to share. Each wedding, couple, and place are so unique. It is God's beauty that we seen in the faces, places, and relationships. Enjoy!

50 years of love: Bob and Sandy

Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph my Great Aunt and Uncle. They were celebrating 50 years of love and committed marriage to one another. During a toast my Uncle Bob gave, he said the only thing keeping them together all these years was God and the commitment He has shown them throughout their lives. I know they have loved and served many, not limited to family. Here are some highlights from the event.

Adoption Day: Kaiden

What a beautiful experience it was to photograph two sweet friends adopting their son! Joe and Debbie had been fostering little Kai for the past 287 days and on October 25th, 2017 they got to officially call him their son! Adoption is the Gospel. It has always been in God's design and plan to adopt children, to bring us into His family through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus. Even God in the Old Testament brought a mixed group of people into what He called 'His people' and promised them an inheritance they did nothing to deserve. I am thankful to know people like Joe and Debbie who live out the Gospel and who practically demonstrate one of God's major characteristics. Congrats you guys!

Senior Session: Caitlin Quiroz

I had the opportunity to photograph my sweet friend, Caitlin, before her graduation this past week! She survived and thrived in the nursing program at UT Arlington and I was blessed to meet her while doing campus ministry there. I asked Caitlin where she spends most of her time on campus and when she said Pickard Hall I knew it would be a challenge to come up with interesting shots using a solid boring brick building. The angles and lighting helped enhanced the photographs. You gotta work with what you got! Caitlin will be an apprentice with Fellowship Of Christian University Students this coming fall. It takes a lot of faith to put your career on hold to pursue the things of God, so please pray for her with me! Love you girl!

Carson and Katie: Chapel at Ana Villa

Congratulations to Carson and Katie on their new life together as a married couple! Thank you for letting me be apart of your special day. This was my first time to photograph a wedding at the Chapel at Ana Villa. The venue was beautiful and had many photo opportunities, which I loved of course! The guests had a lot of fun together and the Nothing Bundt Cakes were on point.

Mick and Raquel: Northeast Church

Mick and Raquel wanted their special day to be about those who have invested in their lives as a couple. The Northeast Church community has surrounded Mick and Raquel with love for quite a few years now, and my job as a photographer that day was to capture the love in the room! It was a fun celebration! Thanks Mick and Raquel!

Chris and Melanie

Chris and Melanie are some of my dear friends and it was a blessing to be involved in their special day. Both of them have an eye for aesthetic, therefore, the details of this wedding were adorable. The Old Red Museum was the perfect DIY location for both of them to add their creative touches to the environment. Thanks for letting me see into the details of your day Chris and Melanie!

Senior Session: Jackson Beall

I had the honor of photographing Jackson Beall for his senior pictures! University of Texas at Dallas has a beautiful campus and I would highly recommend it to anyone needing portraits taken. The landscaping is beautiful and it has a modern twist now. Grant Beall, my "assistant", had the role of making Jackson laugh and smile. I would say mission accomplished! Congrats Jackson. I am praying for a transformative college experience for you.

Michael and Carly

This wedding was a fantastic experience! It was at the Dallas Arboretum, which made my job very easy because of how stunning it is. One thing that really stuck out at this wedding (besides the beautiful surroundings) was the love I saw in Michael and Carly's relationship. It was extremely easy to photograph them, and to capture how they feel about each other. I am so thankful to have had this experience and to have worked with such a great couple! Congrats Michael and Carly!

Tracie and Gavin

This wedding was so much fun and was my first outdoor wedding! It was so special to be their photographer, because Tracie and I grew up together and often talked about who we wanted to marry :-). The Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas was a beautiful venue and I'll never forget that salad they served. MMM! Tracie and Gavin, congratulations! I love you guys!

Nick and Deborah

I had the chance to shoot Nick and Deborah's wedding back on May 9th, 2015 in Dallas, TX at the Dallas Chinese Fellowship Church with a beautiful reception at the Crowne Plaza in Addison, TX. There were so many highlights from the wedding: amazing food, a beautiful bride, the best choreographed bride and groom dance, and the funniest couple's game I've seen so far as a wedding photographer. Thanks for letting me be apart of your day Nick and Deborah!
